Generation Gap

In to day’s society we are more relaxed about many things. And that is what seems to cause the biggest difference between generations. Today the people of the younger generations speak what on their minds, 20 – 30 years ago if a teen disagreed or got upset with something an adult said or did you did not start yelling at them and tell them off or at least not to their face anyway. The decline of moral values is another big issue when it comes to generation gaps. It seem that in today’s world in the average family both parents must work to pay the bills, thus leaving their children to learn a lot for themselves. Which in my mind has the children learning from the world’s morals and values and lets face it they are not that great. Many young people feel that in order to “fit in” they must lower their standards of right and wrong. And that may be why it so easy for a kid to go kill 10 of his classmates and not care. Lets face it; 20 years ago there was not two thirds of the world’s youth on anti-depressants. In our grandparents day if some one was hyper active or a little psychotic they said well hell they will grow out of it sooner or later. And that is a major gap because today we give them Prozac and consoling sessions twice a week for the rest of their life. If you were to walk up to mom or dad and ask them if there were any alcohol and tobacco classes in their high school they would probly say no. So that has to show there is an ever-growing problem with drinking and teens.
My Inspiration Person

By definition a teacher is one who instructs and educates. However, during my school life, my Account teacher, Mr. Shahizam, demonstrated the true meaning of a teacher. She taught me that a teacher is not only one who educates and instructs, but one who cares, encourages, and inspires. Mr. Shahizam is not only my former Accounts teacher, but my inspiration to succeed and be the best that I possibly can. Mr. Shahizam is truly the most dedicated teacher in SMK Jalan Reko. He arrives at school before most teachers even wake up in the morning and leaves as the custodians are cleaning. Not only is he dedicated to his students’ academics, but their extra-curricular activities. You will always see his cheering on his students at games, concerts, and drama productions. For instance, I was extremely touched when I saw him in the stands at my junior takraw game last year. It showed me that he not only cares about me as a student, but as a person. In Mr. Shahizam’s classroom I did not only study accounting, but I learned about the true meanings of life. Specifically, Mr. Shahizam influenced me in areas of scholarship and character. Mr. Shahizam taught me to be a scholarly individual. I have learned that I must set my goals high and strive for them regardless of other‘s opinions. He also taught me that the harder I work, the more successful I will become in life. Moreover, I hope one day I can have the same characteristics as Mr. Shahizam. I hope that I can be as devoted in my career as he is in hims. Mr. Shahizam demonstrates that a career is not only a source of income, but a true passion. His kind and compassionate actions reveal him to be a true humanitarian. From his dedication to his students to his charitable ways, Mr. Shahizam is truly the most benevolent person I know.

Friendship

Friendship

Friendship The human survival is based on friendship. From the highest authority to the lowest bums living on the streets all of them have experienced in some way or the other one of these different kinds of friendships. We take this friendship for granted because it is something that exists naturally in society and most of us never really have to actually go out into the world looking for a friend. Those who have had to live in a foreign country or in new surroundings have learned how important this is in life. The feeling of loneliness is enough to drive a person to near madness. So in conclusion, we cannot thrive successfully as individuals or as a society without having some form of friendship with other individuals. It was a great man, Mark Twain, who once said, "Grief can take care of itself, but to get the full value of joy you must have somebody to divide it with." There is a freedom from both people to express their opinions to each other in order to strengthen the friendship. It does not matter whether the marriage or friendship is by choice or by force. Any form of friendship is based on the simple rules of honesty and trust. These are understood even before it starts. It is this that makes us human. They do not want to know about it or they do not understand it enough. It is a system like any other, and whether it is between spouses or parents and children or friends, the same rules will apply. These rules can be summarized by one word – trustworthiness. If you take your friends for granted then the same happens to you. You don’t realize the true essence of friendship because that friendship would be superficial. All forms of friendships will change with time; some will be strengthened as the members begin to see each other more clearly, and trust each other unconditionally.

Technology In Society

Technlogy in Society

A

ccelerating technological change has stretched human adaptability to the limit. In order to understand the way technology may be changing our views of the world, people must first understand the ways in which modern technology itself processes information. Every technical step towards intelligent robots and machines has a rough evolutionary counterpart, and each is likely to benefit its creators, manufacturers and users. Company’s like Microsoft who create some of these counter parts for robots/machines and most of the technology that exists today, are not only monopolizing the business but are also forcing everyone to use their software because there are no leading competitors. Today people are so dependent on Microsoft and its computer technology that we cannot live without it. Everyday in society people are making improvements, however, these improvements also have equal drawbacks. Today we are using cutting edge technology to improve every aspect of our daily lives. For instance in today's society the fields of Communication and Medicine are constantly advancing yet they both create significant losses. Technology has helped increase the speed of communication and decrease its cost. However, at the same time it has caused people to become more impersonal with each other. In earlier times the major form of communication was for people to visit each other and go to public meeting places. But now all this can be done through e-mail, telephone, or just standard mail. These advances both improve our lives and hurt them. They improve them by decreasing time and money, but hurt by our frustration and anger tords them if they do not obay orders or not work. Society has experienced, change in time spent at work to the efficiency in producing goods due to the changing technologies.

The Dream Destination

The Dream Destination
T

he Place Where Dreams Come True People often fall easily into the notion that theme parks take your imagination to a different place in time. When Disney Land was built, it was meant to be a place for the young and the old alike. A place that promises dreams comes true. They sell the American public and those abode with the sole guarantee of being “The funniest place on Earth.” Never have I ever been so wrong about looking into smoking mirrors, until I first-handedly got the reality of what Disney Land was behind the curtains. From that moment on, my life perspective changed forever, like a lost innocents. It was a cool, crisp, summer morning. The whole family was in anticipation for what was to come. Every summer, like clock work, Dad would dip into his savings and take a family vacation. A special time for Dad to show us the importance of a family unit. Although I was only six at the time, I can still remember every vacation, like it was yesterday. The careful preparations were all in order. Right down to the last call for a bathroom break. We loaded up the car and were off to the great destination to Disney Land. Being at vulnerable age, my mind was filled with visions of finally meeting Mickey mouse and all of his friends, after all I was going to the greatest place on earth. He was going to be so surprised when I tell him all about coming to see him. It was as if I had a personal bond, and he was expecting my arrival. It seemed like eternity, the whole car ride there, over eight long hours in the car. We were tired and exhausted. My father android that entire he could handle for one day. My parents got a motel room, two blocks down from the theme park. I could see the bright lights in the distance. Antisapation was plaguing everyone including me. The next day, I beat the sun rising. All that I had dreamt of was going to finally come true. It was the day that I was going to meet Mickey Mouse in real.

The Lesson

The Lesson

T

he first thing that came to mind reading “The Lesson” was the language used by the narrator. I didn’t like it in the beginning, but I think it was used wisely to show that the story was real, and the way people talked in the poor suburbs. The language made me think that the story was written by a black person, and I thought It was going to be about racism. Then I realized that this story was more about different social classes, white representing the rich and black representing the poor. I believe Ms. Moore is a symbol in “The lesson”. Her name sounds like she wants her students to fight for more than their parents were allowed to. I suppose that she took the kids to the store with the following purposes: to show them that they weren’t different than white people, to make them understand that rich people seem to avoid dealing with poor people’s needs, to teach them not to forget were they’re coming from, and to teach them wise spending. When I came to America I thought the prices here were enormous, and I decided to buy clothes from Salvation Army. Now I’ve been here six years and I think totally different. I learned in economics that spending is a good tool for a country’s economical welfare, so I certainly spend a lot more than I used to, but this story made me think of giving more to the poor, and spending less for my own needs. Easy to say, hard to do. I liked this story because it was about me when I was younger and poorer. I left my country to avoid poverty, and I think all Americans should be blessed that they were born here rather than any other country. I know money isn’t everything but it surely makes life a lot less stressful.
Romeo -n- Juliet

I

n the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare the two young lovers’ fall in love at first sight. They had no idea who each other was until their friends told them they were son and daughter of two feuding families. They did not realize some of the problems they would face until they found out this fact. The hatred between the families was the major obstacle they faced. There families have hated each other so much that every time they had a confrontation it would escalate to a fight. I think some of the things they could have done were to talk to their parents and try to end the fighting. No one really knows why it started in the first place. I think if they heard how silly it was from there own son or daughter that they would at least think about it. The only other options for them to be together is to secretly get married and leave their home and never come back. If they got married and stayed in Verona it would also cause problems. All the people who knew of there marriage would be forced to lie. Almost every time someone lies it gets out and things are worse. They would not be able to live with each other. When they wanted to see each other it would have to be someplace where no one knew them. It would be like they were never married. Juliet would still have to marry Paris and she would have to act like she loved him, Romeo probably couldn’t handle that. In conclusion I think that the way Romeo and Juliet love each other so much would over come any problem they ever faced. Both of the answers I mentioned above should prove that love is a strong emotion when both people share it equally and that they should be able to withstand the criticism of others. Just because their parents don’t like each other doesn’t mean they have to.
